…slashes maize price to K5000/50kgs
South Africa based Malawian prophet Shepherd Bushiri has come to the rescue of Malawians facing hunger by offering to sell maize at a relatively lower price.
This comes as millions in the country continue facing food insecurity due to low yields realized in the last farming season as a result of adverse weather conditions.
Addressing Malawians through a televised press conference, Bushiri said the current political situation has seen authorities overlook the challenges that people are facing including food shortage.
‘’I am making this decision because it appears we have forgotten that our people, the same people whose vote put us into power are going without food in their homes. We have to address this problem,’’ he said.
Bushiri has since bemoaned the lack of action on the part of officials to effectively come to the rescue of those who have been affected, saying that he raised the same concern on food insecurity last year and offered solutions but nothing was done on the ground.
The leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering church has since announced that he will be selling maize at the cheapest price from Wednesday 12 February at K5000 per every 50KG.
It is expected that the first markets will be opened in Ntcheu, and then Salima, Chikwawa, Karonga, Chitipa and Phalombe district before reaching out to all other areas in need of the staple food.
