Electricity processing bribery on the spotlight

Some communities in Lilongwe have accused Escom officers of demanding bribes before processing electricity connections.

The allegations were raised by Group Village Head Gubu of Traditonal Authority Tsabango during an interface meeting.

Speaking to MIJ Online, Group Village Head Gubu, said households struggle to be connected under the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP 9) despite following all application procedures.

Meanwhile, Julius Ng’oma CISONECC National Coordinator described the allegations as serious citing corruption marring electricity connections.

Meanwhile, Ng’oma has urged Escom to investigate the reports.
