The Department of Immigration has said it is modernising border management and strengthening migration information systems inorder to bringing immigration services closer to border communities.
This comes after the department launched Mobile Van Border Services at the Mkanda Mgubudu Crossing Point and Mchinji One Stop Border Post (OSBP) in Mchinji District on September 11, 2026.
In an interview with MIJ Online, Pasqually Zulu, National Spokesperson for the Department, said the initiative is designed to improve access to immigration services for communities and travellers who face challenges when travelling to established border posts.
According to Zulu, through the Mobile Van which has been installed with MIDAS system, immigration officers are able to provide services directly at designated locations, including the processing and verification of travel documents and Border Passes.
He added that, during the inaugural operations at Mkanda Mgubudu, several Malawian travellers were cleared to enter Zambia using valid travel documents, while others travelled using valid Border Passes.
