Bushiri bails out needy Mubas students

Over 30 needy students, who were on the verge of being barred from accessing their end-of year examinations results at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) due to their outstanding tuition fee balances, will now be able to access these results, thanks to a timely financial assistance from the Shepherd Bushiri Foundation.

Gives back to the community.

This was revealed today during a Cheque presentation ceremony, held at MUBAS in the commercial city of Blantyre.

The financial support, which is to the tune of K9, 500, 000. 00, will benefit 36 needy students, who, apart from being barred from accessing their examination results, were also expected to miss their entire next academic year, due to their outstanding tuition fee balances, according to Dr. Gertrude Sitolo, the Director of Students Affairs.

“Your financial assistance has breathed a new life into the needy students. Before you came in with this assistance, the students had no any hope for their future, just like a plant starved of water. But with this assistance, it’s like you have watered their withered lives for them to live a healthy life again,” said Sitolo.

Concurring with Sitolo, a representative of the MUBAS Vice Chancellor Dr Kizito Kanyoma thanked the Shepherd Bushiri Foundation for the timely assistance, describing the foundation as a truest friend in need for the needy students.

On his part, one of the beneficiaries of the financial assistance Lawrence Fundeni, a third year Geological Engineering Student, was lost for words during the event.

“Truth be told, my academic future was in jeopardy. I completely lost hope that I will access my final examination results and continue with my studies. But with the coming in of the Shepherded Bushiri Foundation, I have regained all the hope I lost. Now, I will not only access my examination results, but I will also be able to complete my studies,” said Fundeni.

Speaking to MIJ FM Online after the Cheque presentation ceremony, Duncan Zgambo, who is the Chief Executive Officer for the Shepherd Bushiri Foundation, said they could not hastate to come to the rescue of the needy students, after appreciating their challenge from MUBAS.

“Let me therefore make it clear here that we are not taking this as a donation; but rather an investment into the students. Since the youth are the future of the country, our expectation is that with this assistance, they will also be able to do the same to many others in a similar situation in future, once they are employed, after completing their studies,” said Zgambo.

Zgambo has therefore expressed his foundation’s continued quest to provide financial assistance to more needy secondary school and Tertiary education students for the sake of the country’s socio-economic development.
