Govt seeking aid for Dzaleka settlers

The Ministry of Homeland and Security has issued an urgent call for assistance, as the World Food Programme’s aid to Dzaleka Refugee Camp has been reduced by 50 percent.

This appeal comes at time, with the World Food Program in Malawi announced a significant funding shortfall which has compelled them to slash food rations by fifty percent for over 50,000 individuals residing in the country’s sole refugee camp, Dzaleka effective 1 August..

In an interview with MIJ Online, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, the Minister of Homeland Security, expressed that the decision taken by the WFP is impacting the government directly, as a result, he has appealed for support from donors and other entities.

Ng’oma further said Malawi’s ability to provide sustenance to the Dzaleka Refugee camp will only extend until December pressing need for collaborative efforts to ensure the well-being of the camp’s residents.
