The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) says it has unwavering support for Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director-General Martha Chizuma in quests to tame corruption.
The statement comes after Chizuma has been sued for defamation by business person Ashok Nair who is also business associate to tycoon Zunneth Sattar.
Aside from that, a CSO Forum For National Development has asked the court to commence a criminal case against Chizuma.
This is in the wake of leaked audio conversation between Chizuma and an identified male voice.
In the conversation Chizuma is perceived to have alleged of underhand dealings in his unconditional release from Police in relation to the purchase of land.
But a statement from HRDC, which does not specifically cite these legal challenges says Chizuma needs the support of Malawians now more than ever before.
“HRDC would like to assure her of our continued support as she faces obstruction after obstruction in her quest to fight corruption in the country. Regardless, our faith in Ms Chizuma’s capability to shake the corruption tree to expose the rotten fruit is still intact and we believe she is still the right person for the job,” reads a statement signed by the organisation’s chairperson Gift Trapence.
