The Malawi Human Rights Commission MHRC has described the 2025 general elections as “orderly and peaceful”.
This comes as the commission has released its final 2025 general elections observation report.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Teresa Ndanga, Commissioner at the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC), said despite the peaceful elections, in future there is need for improvements in civic education, inclusion of persons with disabilities and gender representation.
According to Ndanga, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) should revise laws to address the needs of people with disabilities during elections, including accessible messaging and special voting arrangements.
She further indicated that there is need to improve National Identification Card services, especially in hard-to-reach areas and clarifying laws on handouts by political parties.
