The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says it is reviewing the legal framework for the September 2025 general elections by engaging the Judiciary and other legal stakeholders.
The Commission is having the 2025 General Election Post Election review meeting with Judiciary and other Law stakeholders to reflect on administration of 2025 general elections.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Annabel Mtalimanja, Chairperson for the Commission emphasized that, this review meeting will help to find out the gaps that needs to be addressed as the commission is preparing for next general elections.
According to Mtalimanja, this meeting will assess whether the law was adequate during the elections.
She added that, this review will also help to form a part of the report for the commission’s last general elections process.
Meanwhile, Rowland Cole, Chief Technical Advisor on Rule of Law and Human Rights for UNDP, said the review will give all stakeholders who supported MEC during the last elections an opportunity to give feedback to the commission.
