Meet George Kalichero, a 21-year-old innovator

In 2014, George Kalichero from Mulanje district discovered that he had skills of some sort- that he could innovate something.

One of George’s creations.

To that effect, four years later, he came up with a windmill which he made from locally available resources, including ordinary wood.

Since then, the 21-year-old has produced about three windmills that are currently producing clean energy.

Additionally, in 2021, Kalichero created an electric stove subsequently addressing a series of energy woes in the area and country at large.

Interestingly, Kalichero, who has never had any formal training in this field, being aware of the hazardous of fuel emissions to the environment, he has, most recently innovated an electric bicycle which operates when charged.

Kalichero has told MIJ Online that the things he makes are based on natural knowledge, disclosing that he has never attained tertiary education.

“I intend to employ about one hundred people, provided that I get financial support from relevant authorities and organization,” he says in an interview with MIJ Online.

He has since called on government to financially support innovators in the country if it is really committed to uplift the country’s economic status.
