The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has rubished reports suggesting that its President, Peter Mutharika, is receiving medical treatment in South Africa.
According to Peter Mukhito, the party’s Secretary General, the claims are baseless and lack any truth.
In a press statement Mukhito has stressed that President Mutharika traveled on a scheduled public flight with Malawian Airlines from Chileka International Airport, highlighting the transparency and legitimacy of the trip.
This, he said should dispel any speculation or doubt about the nature of the visit.
Mukhito has since assured the public that President Mutharika is in excellent health and is merely attending to private business in South Africa.
According to Mukhito, Mutharika remains fully committed to returning home soon to continue providing strong leadership within the party and to prepare for the forthcoming general elections on September 16.
The DPP has since urged citizens to reject sensationalism and falsehoods instead upholding the values and vision of the party.
