Prison authorities have dismissed social media reports claiming that suspects paraded by the Malawi Police Service in connection with the murder of Dr Victoria Bobe are inmates serving custodial sentences at Chichiri Prison.
The authorities have described the claims as misleading and without any factual basis, stressing that Malawi’s prisons remain safe and secure.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Steve Meke Spokesperson for Malawi Prison Service said all inmates in the country’s prisons are properly accounted for at all times.
He added saying there has been no escape or unlawful release of prisoners linked to the case.
Meke has since urged members of the public to rely on verified information from credible sources and to avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that can cause unnecessary panic in society.
