Rumphi communities want stadium project completed

Concerned citizens in Rumphi district have called for the resignation of all councilors and the transfer of the district commissioner for allegedly failing to address challenges that young people are facing including the delay in completion of a district stadium.

This comes barely weeks after the social media was awash with messages that went viral displaying disagreements between a member of parliament and the district commissioner over misappropriation of funds for a number of projects.

In a notice of intention to hold demonstrations addressed to the district commissioner, the grouping is accusing the council of failing to improve the district stadium and put the welfare of young people at heart.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Thembani Mkandawire said youths from Rumphi West, Rumphi East, Rumphi North and Rumphi centre constituencies will exercise their democratic right to demonstrate against the district council office for failure to prioritize youth demands.

Meanwhile, Happy Chirambo, Chairperson for Rumphi district council has told MIJ Online that currently the Development service committee is meeting to discuss over the matter.
