Some secondary school teachers that were promoted early this year have threatened to take unspecified action over delay by government to issue them offer letters pertaining to their promotion.
The teachers claim that since being promoted, they are yet to start receiving new salaries in accordance with their new grades.
One of the affected teachers, Samuel Chiwaya who relocated to Mangochi from Chiladzulu to take up his new position as a secondary school teacher said the development has been an inconvenience.
He said they were made to live in hurry and take their new positions as failure to do the same within a specified time meant one has forfeited their position.
“We left without proper preparations only with hope that the salary was to help them settle,” said Chiwaya.
He says they plan to take unspecified action if government will not address their salary issue.
Commenting on the matter, Chikondi Chimala spokesperson in the ministry of education said recruitment is a responsibility of several government offices where the expectation is that all due processes are being followed.
“All we can say is that due process is being followed to ensure and everyone will get their dues at the right time. For the two months of April and May, they will get arrears. You will agree with me that government has to be meticulous and follow all due process to avoid any mishaps,” said Chimala.
In march this year, government employed and promoted about one thousand secondary school teachers and promoted others making the total of two thousand five hundred and ninety-nine.
