The UTM Party has described the past 12 months as extremely challenging, following the death of its leader and founder, Saulos Chilima.
According to Felix Njawala, UTM Spokesperson, the party has gone through grief and betrayal but remains optimistic that Chilima’s vision will endure.
As the party prepares to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Chilima’s death, Njawala urged Malawians to allow the party to mourn in peace.
Chilima’s died along with eight others, in a plane crash on June 10 last year.
Njawala has since emphasized that the party will continue to seek justice and answers regarding the circumstances surrounding Chilima’s death.
A memorial candle service will be held at Chilima’s home village in Nsipe, Ntcheu.
