Accidents during 2023 Easter period rise

Malawi has this year recorded a rise of road accidents during the Easter season in comparison to the same period last year.

This is according to statistics from the police which indicate that the nation has registered fifty-six road accidents this Easter which is a higher figure in comparison to forty-five recorded last year.

Speaking to MIJ Online, Peter Kalaya, National Police Spokesperson attributed the increase to growing incidents of drink-driving during the season.

Besides Kalaya said police have reinforced patrols and use of the breathalyzer test to curb drink-driving offences as a way of reducing road accidents in the country.
