Airtel introduces e-Sim first of its kind in Malawi
Airtel Malawi has announced of the introduction of e-SIM, an innovation that is first of its kind in the country.
An e-SIM is an industry-standard digital SIM that allows users to activate a cellular plan from without having to use a physical SIM.

This means that users will no longer need physical Subscriber Identity Module – SIM cards to connect to the network.
According to the company’s managing director Charles Kamoto, only those with selected mobile phones qualify for the platform.
‘’We have invested quite a lot in this technology which will help our users be in the global village that everyone is now. We expect that services will improve through this platform as the world continues to go digital,’’ he said.
On his part, Daud Suleman director general of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), described Airtel Malawi’s latest innovation as progressive.
‘’This is what as a regulator we seek to ensure that our country does not lag behind these life- changing and economically vital technologies. We are also taking such innovations as crucial in the realization of 2063 national blueprint,’’ said Suleman.
