The NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGOGCN) and UN Women have reiterated their call on the need to support women in politics.
The call was made at a recent cross-party forum in Lilongwe, where senior officials from various political parties gathered to discuss ways to promote women’s rights and empowerment.
NGOGCN is implementing the project with support from UN Women funded by Government of Sweden and Government of Norway.
Speaking to MIJ Online ,Maggie Kathewela Banda Chairperson for NGOGCN said that as the country draws closer to 16th September there is need to address the challenges that hinder women’s participation in politics.
According to Banda it is paramount to promote women’s rights and ensuring that their voices are not sidelined.
And on his part, Victor Maulidi, Programme Specialist for Gender and Governance at UN Women, stressed the need for political parties to support women in taking senior positions.
