The National Construction Industry Council has entered into a partnership with the Malawi Police Service to strengthen regulatory measures and ensure compliance within the construction industry.
This collaborative effort comes in response to a noticeable rise in the number of unregistered construction companies and instances of fraudulent documentation, where individuals falsely claim to be engineers or architects.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Engineer Gerald Kanje, Chief Executive Officer of NCIC, said unregistered construction entities and individuals pose threat to both public safety and national development as their work often lacks approval from the council.
Kanje further explained that the collaboration with the Malawi Police Service aims to curb the proliferation of unregistered entities and enhance overall adherence to industry standards, safeguarding lives and contributing to the nation’s development.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Dennis Chipao, responsible for Human Resource Management, has issued a warning to individuals and companies violating the National Construction Industry Act saying if they are caught operating illegally, criminal proceedings will be initiated against them.
