Chikwawa Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced Dominic Timothy, and Brian Matiki, to four years’ imprisonment with hard labour after being found in possession of a pangolin.
The court heard from the State Prosecutor, Enerst Mangwena, that on 4th September 2026, well-wishers informed police that the duo were selling a live pangolin at Domasi Trading Centre before Police found them carrying the pangolin in a laptop bag and arrested them.

In court, both men pleaded guilty to the charge and in mitigation, they pleaded for leniency, saying they had family obligations.
In his submission, the State Prosecutor asked for a stiffer punishment as the offence was serious and well planned.
Passing sentence, the Senior Resident Magistrate, Gift Msume, agreed with the State and sentenced the two to four years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
Both Dominic Timothy and Brian Matiki come from Matola Village, Traditional Authority Tengani, in Nsanje District.
