Beit Cure call for child disability sensitization as FCB pumps in K7 million

Experts have called on the need to sensitize the masses on curable child disabilities as one way of reducing the burden in Malawi.

The call follows revelation by Beit Cure Children’s Hospital that about 15% of children in Malawi have various forms of disabilities at a time   majority of the country’s population comprise of the youth with 43% being those below the age of 15.

Speaking after receiving a K7 million donation from First Capital Bank on Thursday, Elly Chemey-Executive Director for Beit Cure Children’s Hospital Malawi said there is need for more support to reach out to children with disabilities with quality care and treatment.

The hospital has been providing free orthopedic services to children in Malawi and the region since 2002.

“Apart from treating and offering quality care to children here at the hospital, we also conduct mobile clinic services to reach out to children across the country’s hard to reach areas with free orthopedic services however there is need for communities to be aware of these services in order to reach more children,’’ said Chemey.

Chemey also disclosed that the hospital plans to expand its services to reach more children and therefore commended FCB for a continued support to the hospital.

Meanwhile Twikale Chirwa, Head of Marketing for FCB committed to continue supporting the hospital in its operations.

“We have been supporting Beit Cure Children’s Hospital since its establishment in Malawi in 2002 and will continue doing so because it is in line with our belief in promoting the health well-being of Malawians,” said Chirwa.
