Human rights activists have applauded the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP for dropping all criminal charges against Martha Chizuma Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Chizuma was answering criminal defamation charges involving a phone conversation audio in which she allegedly accused former DPP and a judge for being corrupt.
The Director of Public Prosecutions Masauko Chamkakala in one of the local newspapers said after a review of the case in line with the prescription of the country’s laws in consultation with the attorney general he has decided to discontinue the criminal case.
And in reaction to the recent development Michael Kayiyatsa, Vice Chairperson for Human Rights Defenders Coalition, hailed the DPP for the bold decision saying the charges were counterproductive in the fight against corruption.
Kayiyatsa further said the ACB boss should be left alone to concentrate on the fight against corruption.
