Broadcasters in the country have been urged to be creative so as to avoid recycling content and strive to maintain professionalism in their work.
The remarks coming from Alekeni Odala Menyani MACRA board member were made during this year’s World Radio Day commemoration which was held on March 27, 2024 at the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Zwangendaba house in Mzuzu targeting northern region-based radio stations.
Speaking at the event Menyani said bemoaned lack of creativity in content development among broadcasters saying that is detrimental to the growth of radio in the country.
“If I was to be brutally honest, we have failed a lot in terms of content development in this country. Some broadcasters keep on recycling their content and that has to change. Be creative and bring excitement to your followers and that can attract partners thus helping in revenue generation,” Menyani said.
Menyani, however said MACRA is committed to ensure that radio stations produce high quality citing the introduction of campus radio stations in institutions of tertiary education as one of the initiatives taken to enhance program and content diversification.
Meanwhile, commenting on the same Acting Deputy Executive Secretary at Malawi National Commission UNESCO David Mulera said capacity building, financial stability and networking are some of the importance elements that can help grow and strengthen the operations of radios in Malawi.
All of the radio stations based in northern region came together for the occasion which was locally being commemorated under the theme: radio a true companion for years; information; entertainment; and education.
