Calls keep resurfacing for President Lazarus Chakwera to name a lean cabinet, as twelve people have made the cut into his initial cabinet list with trade and industry ministries now merged.
In a statement signed by Zangazanga Chikhosi Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Abida Mia and Vera Kantukule have been now appointed full ministers of Water and Sanitation and Labor respectively.
The two were Deputy Minister in Lands and Labor respectively.
Meanwhile, Mark Katsonga- Minister of Trade and Industry, Samuel Kawale- Minister of Lands replacing Kezzie Msukwa are the new faces in a lineup of twelve people.
In his immediate comment, Sylvester Namiwa- Executive Director for Center for Democracy and Economic Development has said the appointment shows that it is possible to merge some ministries.
In order to achieve a lean cabinet, Namiwa has called on Chakwera to merge the ministry of Information, civic education, culture, sports and youth.
“And the Ministry of Homeland Security and defense should be under his office, Finance and Economic Planning Development under Vice President.” said Namiwa.
