Malawians should brace for more blackouts as power generator EGENCO is producing below its power generation capacity.
This comes following the total shutting down of Kapichira hydro power plant and Tedzani Four power plant due to flash floods that have damaged water intake structures.
EGENCO Public Relations Officer Moses Gwaza has told MIJ FM that currently they are able to produce 115 megawatts of power out of its total capacity of 385.8 megawatts.
According to Gwaza, at Kapichira power station, the flash floods have severely damaged the water intake dam including the part that controls the flow of water in shire river which is partly washed away.
EGENCO has since disclosed it cannot guarantee the resumption of full capacity power supply as they still assess the situation
