A call has gone out to stakeholders to complement government’s efforts in promotion of education, to develop the country.
The sentiments come at a time schools and learners continue to face challenges, despite government’s efforts in trying to address them.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Chiradzulu South, Joseph Mwanamvekha has donated 1000 school bags to learners in 7 secondary schools in his constituency.
Two months ago, Mwanamvekha also introduced a school fees bursary in which 15 learners from all the seven secondary schools in the constituency are being paid school fees, bringing the total to 105 learners.
Speaking to MIJ FM, Chitimbe Wadi-Personal Assistant to Mwanamvekha-said government has been doing its part such as constructing schools hence it is up to various individuals to come in and assist on challenges still existing in the education sector.
“As you might know, government is currently in the process of constructing 250 secondary schools and the state president Mutharika has always emphasized on the need to invest in education; so honorable Mwanamvekha is doing his part by assisting learners in the constituency which he is representing, ’said Wadi
Wadi added that with the 12 million Kwacha-school bags donation, Mwanamvekha is trying to encourage learners from the area to study hard and provide comfort to the girl child learner to comfortably carry all necessities when going to school.
Meanwhile, Jesse Singini-a form 4 student from Mapesi CDSS is one of the 105 learners who are benefitting from the bursary introduced by the legislature and has since hailed Mwanamvekha for the assistance-saying it will encourage learners to continue with their education.
“Today is a happy day and as learners we are very excited, you know we come from families with different earnings such that others cannot afford school bags.
So these school bags bring us on the same level so we can comfortably concentrate on our studies without worrying what other have or don’t have”. Singini said
Roland Gerald Kwapula, Primary Education Advisor for Litchenza zone disclosed that learners in the area have been facing many challenges including lack of fees which has led many to drop out of school.
“Lack of school fees is a major challenge apart from inadequate learning materials, so the assistance from honorable mwanamveka will go a long way in trying to ease some of these challenges”. Kwapula said
He has however called on other well-wishers to assist with learning materials such as books and science laboratories.
