Chiwanja Cha Ayao, a cultural association preserving the plight of Yaos has dedicated this years festival onto the plight of girls.
Kennedy Yasin, chairperson of the organizing committee has told the media they have settled for the plight of girls to try amplify challenges girls were facing and also help build their resilience.
Education, he said, was the beacon of knowledge, skills and opportunities towards shaping childrens future.
“Every girl deserves the opportunity to go to school, complete her education and pursue her dreams,” said Yasin.
He, however expressed concern over the low pass rate of girls in the recently released Maneb examinations for both Junior Certificate and Primary School Leaving Certificate levels.
“This is why a key initiative of this years festival will support some primary schools in Salima targeting girl children whose challenges include menstrual hygiene, uniform and long distances to school,” he said.
The festival this year has moved to Salima District, to be held on October, 10 at Bibi Maganga under the theme Celebrating Our Heritage, Educating Our Girls, Building Our Future.
