Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Martha Chizuma has described the country’s current corruption status as devastating, casting doubts that the 2063 development target may be hard to achieve.
On the other hand, civil society organizations feel the country’s corruption status has reached crisis levels.
The observations have been made during the national Anti-corruption dialogue which is underway in Lilongwe.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Chizuma said despite the fight against corruption practices, corruption remains rampant in the country
According to Chizuma, if corruption continues Malawians should forget getting any outcome from the Malawi vision 2063.
‘’Corruption levels remain alarming and with devastating effects in Malawi. People entrusted with public funds say right words but do the opposite behind the scenes. We need urgency and courage from all to stamp out corruption’’ she said.
In his reaction, Gift Trapence chairperson of the human rights defender’s coalition said there is need for lifestyle audits and fast tracking of the establishment of the financial crimes court.
