The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) has urged government to move with speed in addressing economic woes that the country is facing.
Currently, the country is sailing through economic hardships as witnessed by rising cost of living as prices of basic goods such as cooking oil have gone up.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Boniface Chibwana, National Coordinator for CCJP said there is need for the Tonse Alliance administration to go back to their manifesto and give Malawians hope on their short-term plans to cushion suffering poor citizens.
According to Chibwana people are now hopeless as life is becoming hard more than what they expected to see with the change of the regime.
“The Tonse Alliance government was voted into power because its campaign promises, which now we can correctly call propaganda, gave hope to most Malawians regarding being taken out of dehumanising levels of poverty. But in less than two years, all citizens except for the few well connected, all that hope is lost. More seriously, citizens don’t even know where the country is going.” he said in the statement.
