The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting free, fair and credible elections in Malawi.
Speaking at the opening of a training of trainers on election situation room, organized by the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE), COMESA senior analyst Richard Atwari emphasized the organization’s readiness to observe and provide recommendations during the upcoming elections.
Atwari highlighted the collaboration between COMESA and NICE, aimed at training observers to effectively handle electoral information and build the capacity of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for a satisfactory election.
“COMESA is working hand in hand with NICE to train observers in ways they can handle electoral information and provide a capacity building to MEC for a satisfactory election,” he said.
And on his part, NICE Executive Director Gray Kalindakafe emphasized the importance of the training workshop, stating that it will equip observers with the necessary skills to provide accurate information during the election.
Kalindakafe also pledged NICE’s commitment to deploying non-partisan observers in all polling centers during the elections to ensure credibility.
The joint effort between COMESA and NICE aims to promote electoral integrity and transparency, ensuring that the upcoming elections are free, fair, and credible.
