The Parliamentary Committee on Health has disclosed that it will present a report in the August House on claims that the country has the highest prevalence rate of fake medicines, standing at 88 percent.
Dr. Matthews Ngwale, Chairperson of the Committee, made the disclosure ahead of the 5th Meeting of the National Assembly in the 50th Session of Parliament, which begins on August 26th, 2024.
Despite the claims being rubbished by the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA), Ngwale told us that there was a need to scrutinize the matter as it is of public concern.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Dr. Ngwale noted that the committee has had discussions with all relevant stakeholders on the matter and that a report on the issue will be presented in parliament.
