The High Court in Lilongwe has reserved its ruling on a bail application for Sylvester Namiwa the Executive Director of the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives.
This comes as Namiwa is in custody on charges of treason and publication of false news likely to cause public alarm.
The case returned to court before the presiding judge Mzondi Mvula for a formal bail application.
Meanwhile the State proposed several conditions including payment of a K2 million bail bond, two sureties bonded at K3 million non-cash, surrender of travel documents, reporting to police every fortnight on a Friday and refraining from granting interviews similar to those that led to his arrest.
Judge Mvula indicated that the ruling will be communicated to both parties once he has considered all the submissions.
Speaking to MIJ Online Defence lawyer Gift Mwenye said that they want the bail amount of money be reduced as it is excessive for Namiwa to meet.
