A dark cloud has fallen over the football community in the country as Davie Moya, a revered figure in Malawian football and a former player for Silver Strikers, has died.
Moya, passed away while receiving medical treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.
The former football icon had a distinguished career with Silver Strikers, playing a vital role in the team’s success.
He was a key member of the squad that clinched the TNM Super League honors in 2012 and went on to defend it for three consecutive seasons.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Blessings Tembo, who shared the field with Moya, expressed his deep sorrow at the loss, describing him as a hero and true legend of the sport.
Meanwhile Rodrick Gonani, who not only played alongside Moya but also collaborated with him in coaching youth teams, highlighted Moya’s exceptional qualities as both a player and an individual.
Gonani emphasized that Moya’s kindness and outstanding skills, both on and off the pitch.
The remains of Moya will be taken from the KCH mortuary at around 2 PM this afternoon to his home in Kawale.
He will be laid to rest at the Lilongwe Girls’ graveyard tomorrow, marking the end of a chapter in Malawi’s football history.
Davie Moya’s legacy will forever be cherished by fans and the football fraternity alike.
