TNM pledges its support to the media
In commemoration of this year’s World Press Freedom Day (WPFD), pioneer mobile network company TNM plc has contributed K2 million to Zomba Press Club to help facilitate the club’s participation at the main WPFD gala dinner and awards in Mangochi on May 4.
This year’s celebrations will be held under the theme: “Guardians of Democracy: Championing Media Independence for Credible Elections”.
Corporate Affairs Manager Limbani Nsapato said the company’s contribution reaffirms its commitment towards promoting press freedom in Malawi and recognizes journalist’s critical role to Malawi’s economic development endeavors.
“TNM maintains strong and cordial relations with journalists and the local media in general, hence our support. This sponsorship is a continuation of our support towards media with whom we work closely in different capacities,” he said.
He said the contribution aims to smoothen logistics for members of the Zomba Press Club who will be travelling to Mangochi to participate in the main events, among other needs.
“May 3 is an important day for the media worldwide, and we look forward to joining the fraternity as they commemorate this day. Furthermore, our gesture is in appreciation of the wonderful and cordial relations TNM enjoys with media in Malawi,” he said.
For his part, Zomba Press Club President Titus Linzie thanked TNM for the contribution saying it will motivate the club’s membership to continue working together to achieve their goal of promoting transparency and accountability.
“As Zomba Press Club we appreciate this gesture because not only is it a motivation for us to uphold our journalism values during the 2025 national tripartite elections, but the funds will also go towards our World Press Freedom Day commemoration activities which include paying a visit to war veterans”, said Linzie.
