Fix the passport dilemma, Govt challenged

Civil Society Organizations have vowed to continue pressuring the government to swiftly restore the passport processing system at the immigration department.

Namiwa: We want actions.

According to President Lazarus Chakwera, the system, which was initially hacked, is being held at ransom by an unidentified group of people.

Meanwhile, Chakwera has ordered immigration officials and the line ministry of homeland security to restore the system within a period of three weeks.

Commenting on the matter, Sylvester Namiwa, Executive Director for the Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI), said his organization is monitoring the situation.

According to Namiwa, it is unlikely that the President’s directive will be met based on past experience. He has since called on authorities to treat the matter with urgency.
