FOSEMA in drive to tame child marriages in Mangochi
Forum for the social and economic Development in Mangochi FOSEMA is slated to roll out a campaign aimed at reducing the rising cases of child marriages and teen pregnancies in Mangochi district.
This has been revealed by Alllie Mwachande, Public relations officer for FOSEMA ahead of the grouping’s annual general meeting.
Mwachande said they have been various reports on high number of teen pregnancies resulting in early marriages in Mangochi.
“As you are aware, our home district has been topping the list of early marriages for some time and we feel ashamed, so we have joined hands to roll out civic education amongst girls” said Mwachande.
Between 2019 and 2020, Mangochi registered over 7000 teen pregnancies, with some stakeholders citing the Covid19 restrictions as one factor that led to this feat.
Under the theme” our Mangochi our pride, developing equitable future for all” , the meeting will take place at Blue Fish lodge in the district and will bring together both businessmen and residents from the lakeshore districts.
