Government continues to face pressure to implement appropriate measures to deal with a rise in the cost of living.
This is after youths in the northern region are on Wednesday expected to hold peaceful demonstrations in Mzuzu aimed at forcing the Tonse administration address the economic hardships the country is currently facing.
Similar demonstrations have been held before in the country as government is urged to deal with the country’s socio-economic woes.
In a letter signed by Fyabupi Kamanga Chairperson for Young Human Rights Defenders Network, the organization has now notified Mzuzu City Council authorities on the intention to hold the protests on July 27.
Speaking to MIJ Online Kamanga said the demonstrations are aimed at forcing the Tonse leadership to address the rising cost of living.
Meanwhile, government has called on organizers of demonstrations to follow the law when holding protests.
According to Timothy Mtambo, Minister of National Unity, government will not stop anyone from holding demonstrations in the country.
However, Mtambo called on the organizers of the demonstrations to ensure that the protests are peaceful.
