Govt asked to develop emergency monetary plan

Government is being challenged to suspend the proposed 2023-2024 national budget and come up with an emergency fiscal plan reflective of the present social-economic circumstances.

The suggestion from Kamlepo Kalua – Legislator for Rumphi East follows the observation that the proposed budget is not in line with the current crisis as a result of devastating effects of cyclone Freddy.

Speaking to MIJ Online, Kaula said there is need to incorporate specific strategies in the budget aimed at addressing the impacts of cyclone Freddy.

He has also called for the introduction of centres to regulate the management of relief items in affected districts.
