The Malawi Human Rights Commission, MHRC has called on government to do thorough consultations on its plan to make Covid-19 vaccination mandatory.
The call from Commissioner Boniface Massa comes as government is considering making the vaccination compulsory in order to increase the uptake of the jabs.
The development comes as Malawi is set to miss the World Health Organization-WHO of vaccination not 30 percent of the country’s population by December.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Massa said there is need for government to consult all relevant stakeholders to ensure that rights of people are not violated.
Meanwhile, Sylvester Namiwa, a human rights activist has urged government not to impose compulsory Covid-19 vaccination.
According to the, Ministry of health, cumulatively, 618,597 people are fully vaccinated in the country.
