Govt denies spying on journalists

Government has downplayed allegations that it is spying on journalists and citizens.

This has been said by Ministry of Information’s Principal Secretary Heatherwick Njati.

Njati was responding to questions from the Public Accounts committee of Parliament that joined Media body MISA Malawi and other Civil Society Organizations in expressing concern over the alleged conduct.

In his response, Njati refuted the claims that government is and has been spying on journalists and citizens saying such does not exist.

He added the ministry will soon issue a Statement to assure Malawians that no one is spying on them.

Recently, some people in the country have faced arrests for speaking against government and president Lazarus on social media platforms.
