HRDC reports Mutharika to African Union

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition has reported President Peter Mutharika to the African Union over what they describe as abuse of power.

This follows a series of demonstrations that the grouping has been conducting in forcing President Mutharika among others to have him fire MEC Chairperson-Jane Ansa and MEC commissioners for alleged incompetence.

Mutharika reported at AU.

But since the announcement of the disputed 21 May tripartite elections results, the President has denied to assent to the electoral laws and firing the commissioners.

The HRDC Leadership wants the Chairperson for African Union Cyril Ramaphosa to take Mutharika to account over what they also dub as violating the rule of law.

Gift Trapence, Vice chairperson for Human Rights Defenders Coalition-said Mutharika has abused his power by undermining the orders by the Constitutional Court.

“We are making the requests following what has been transpiring in the recent months. We feel the international community has to help us address some of these issues,” said Trapence.
