The Malawi Human Rights Commission-MHRC – has started conducting a public hearing on the alleged torture of Yohane Mkoko – at Ndirande Police Station.
Mkoko was at the verge of losing both of his hands after he was allegedly tortured and handcuffed for eleven days in a police cell.
He was later released from the cell after the police officers noticed his hands were getting worse and well-wishers had to take him to the hospital after noting his deteriorating condition.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Kate Kujaliwa, Public Relations Officer for MHRC – said during the public hearing, the commission will be engaging parties involved and various stakeholders, including human rights organisations.
