The Magistrates court in Blantyre has adjourned to next month a case to do with alleged irregular recruitment of 127 immigration assistants which involves former minister of Homeland Security Cecilia Chazama, former Immigration chief Masauko Medi and four others.
Earlier on, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) asked the Blantyre Magistrate’s Court to order Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services to provide documents pertaining to the said recruitments.
This followed concerns that the bureau had struggled to access some documents from Immigration to help consolidate its evidence.
The accused were arrested in 2022 and trail has been going on since then after they all pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, Chief resident magistrate Chisomo Msokera has ordered that the human resource documents be brought before the court or that the case will proceed if the sought papers are not made available.
The documents are expected to be given to lawyers on May 14 with Msokera now adjourning the case for further hearing from May 20th.
