A group of concerned IPTE 14 teachers has given government a week demanding clarification on when they will be employed and why government is planning to hire form 4 school leavers as mentor teachers in the country.
This comes as the group in the morning presented their petition at Ministry of Education and local government.
Few days ago, Monica Chang’anamuno Deputy Minister of Education said under the newly launched Malawi Education Reform Program MERP government will support girls’ learning, through the hiring of 2,605 Form 4 school leavers who will work as learner mentors in the schools which have few or no female teachers.
According to Chang’anamuno Under MERP government will also recruit 3,500 Auxiliary Teachers.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Yankho Mathias Deputy Spokesperson for IPTE14 Teachers expressed dismay with continued government’s failure to hire the trained teachers who are just staying home.
According to Mathias they have given government 7 days ultimatum to respond on their grievances failing which they will start holding vigils at the capitol hill.
