The case involving three boys of the same family who are alleged to have defiled a three-year-old minor in Lilongwe is expected to be heard in court this month.
Director of public prosecution Dr. Steve Kayuni has confirmed the development to MIJ Online.
This follows research done by some medical experts that revealed that one of the boys suspected to have defiled the minor is not 11 years old as initially claimed by the parents and police.
The parents and the police claimed that the boys were all under 11 and that made them not legible to be convicted.
From the experience, the three-year-old got her urinary bladder damaged and also allegedly got infected with Sexual Transmitted Diseases.
The mother of the girl was helpless as she had nowhere to get justice and has been pushed back and forth from various offices ranging from the police to the hospitals for six months.
The matter came to light following Zilipati program which Aires on MIJ Radio before it brought outrage from Malawians who called on the office of the DPP to initiate a probe into the matter.
Eye of the Child, an international human rights organization, has been at the forefront of pushing for the case to see the light of the day.
According to Kayuni, preparations are at an advanced stage for the case to head into court later this month pending direction from the court.
