Health authorities have disclosed that over sixteen thousand children have received Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, in the country, figures which government says are too low.
The Pfizer vaccine was introduced as a way of protecting children aged 12 and 17 years from Covid-19 and minimize the further spread of the virus among children.
According to Dr Wilfred Chalamila Nkhoma, Co-Chairperson of the Presidential task-force on Covid-19, the figures represent low uptake.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Nkhoma, attributed this to challenges health personnel are facing in getting consents from the children’s guardians.
However, Nkhoma was hopeful that the figures will improve once the school going children go on holiday.
