The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured Malawians that it is in talks with the United States government to review the policy introduced under a new pilot program.
Last week, the US government issued a statement on its official website requiring citizens of Malawi and Zambia to post a bond ranging from 8 million to 26 million kwacha, depending on the timing of their visa interview.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Nancy Tembo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the policy will not affect Malawian students studying or working in the US, but it will impact those traveling to visit family or for holidays.
Tembo said Malawi maintains a good relationship with the United States and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to ensure Malawians follow all necessary procedures when traveling to the US.
