The Ministry of Water has disclosed that Malawi needs about MK 1 Trillion (1 Billion US dollars) to improve sanitation and increase access to portable water by 2030.
Dr. Max Wengawenga Director of Planning at the ministry of Water has said this in Lilongwe during a Global Water Leadership Regional Stakeholders Workshop.
Wengawenga said government is committed to achieve the Goal as different strategies are being put in place to see the fulfillment of the development goal.
However, Global Water Partnership- Malawi says the Country is not on track to achieving the Clean Water Development Goal by 2030.
Deborah Muheka, Programme Coordinator for the Partnership has told journalists in Lilongwe that Malawi needs to invest more in Water projects and water resources management if the country is to be on track to achieving the Goal.
According to Muheka, statistics are showing that over 7 million people in Malawi still have no access to clean water, a situation she described as worrisome.
