Agriculture experts have asked government to deploy clear cut regulations over the growing of cannabis in the country.
The bill which establishes the Cannabis Regulatory Authority (CRA) whose role will be to grant licenses to cultivate, process, store, sell, export and distribute cannabis.
The authority also has the mandate to oversee the exportation of cannabis as well as grant permits to conduct scientific research programmes
With the bill, licensees will be required to comply with security measures regarding cultivation, processing, storage and distribution of cannabis.
Experts have since started weighing in on the development.
In an interview with MIJ Online, the expert Tamani Nkhono argued that for the country to benefit from the cannabis, authorities have to develop and enforce staunch regulations.
Nkhono is also of the view that potential growers have to be sensitized, a task whose onus he says is of the Agriculture Ministry.
‘’One other important aspect is for stakeholders to civic educate people over a misconception arising over the industrial cannabis and Indian hemp, ‘’ said Nkhono.
At the moment, government is yet to state when it will start the paperwork for market regulation.
