The Malawi Human Rights Commission has said it is engaging Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau Martha Chizuma on the leaked conversation and the fight against corruption in country.
In a response addressed to Sylvester Namiwa, Executive Director for Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives- that MIJ Online has seen signed by Habiba Osman- Secretary Executive, the Commission has assured the human rights activist that the issue is being followed.
Earlier, Namiwa called for an investigation to unmask the person who recorded and leaked a telephone conversation with Chizuma and an unknown person.
But in a letter addressed to Namiwa, Malawi Huma Rights Commission has said it is taking steps to solve the issues bordering on the fight against corruption.
“The commission has taken note of your request and issues raised. Please be assured that the commission is already taking steps to address the issues bordering on the fight against corruption and not just the issue of the leakage of a telephone conversation.” read part of the letter.
The commission has also revealed that it is engaging Chizuma and other concerned parties on the matter.
Meanwhile, Namiwa has confirmed to MIJ Online that he has received the letter and that he was impressed with the response but was quick to say that what matters now is action to be seen on the issue.
Namiwa has vowed not to relent on the fight against those trying to frustrate the fight against corruption in the country.
