Ministry of health beats target in polio vaccine campaign second phase

The Ministry of Health says it has surpassed its target for polio vaccination campaign in the second phase after reaching 102 percent.

Malawi has so far administered two phases of polio vaccine in a campaign aimed at preventing the outbreak of the disease, following a single case that was registered in Lilongwe in February this year.

Speaking to MIJ Online, after the second phase which run from 25 to 29 April, spokesperson for the ministry-Adrian Chikumbe-described the second phase as a success.

Chikumbe said they targeted 2,922,175 children but managed to vaccinate over 2, 974,000 children, representing 102 percent.

In the first phase authorities also managed to surpass its target.

Chikumbe however disclosed that there will be a one month break in the campaign to give room for shipment of more polio vaccine hence the remaining two phases will take place in the months of June and July.
